Belgian brewing traditions are one of the original inspirations for us, and Apophenia showcases our love for these beers. The strongest of our core range: ABV expertly hidden with a touch of hops, orange peel and coriander to balance it all out.

All of our beers are unfiltered and vegan friendly.

440ml can. For me, much better than some of the other reviews. Tripels are strong Belgian pale ales brewed with a variety of adjunct sugars. This example is exactly that (except it’s from Bristol, England). Loads of orange peel, cloves and banana. Spicy, dry and strong, and supremely (dangerously) drinkable.

Blind-tasted except for the beer's name, ABV% and brewery/country; zero reviews below or the lable read (yet!)...
First off apophenia could be termed 'an entry-level to schizophrenia'. It is characterised by an exagerated belief that the subject is seeing patterns, within scenes, objects, feelings and so on. Naturally this had me immediately scrutinising the scenic lable looking for deeper meaning... hmmm... nope :)
L- Pours mid amber/orange with a slight haze and a 3mm white head.
S- Seems quite spicy and it has a fruit note too.
T- Bright [---> ... genuine involuntary shudder!!!]. Gawd that went from bright to seriously SOUR/BITTER in about 3 seconds while typing! It's certainly different and frankly doesn't taste like a beer. It's more like a very sour/bitter citrus drink which is also sweet how adjuncts can be, and where even 8.8% manages to almost get obscured. It tastes very articial.
F- Hard-core! Sour, bitter, rich (but via adjunct instead of more subtle malts). What issit... a hipsters winter-warmer? IDK.
O- First beer of the night for me, like this one I feel new beers reviews deserve a clean palate, and BOOOOM! did it make an impression. I dare say you could drink this together with a vindaloo and neither would have their flavour compromised.
Conclusion: I don't know what to make of this, as it warms it's becoming more like a spiked Tango, honestly, like 50/50 with vodka. (The kind you hurriedly mix yourself when you arrive late at the airport Club lounge and only have 20mins to F+B there pre-boarding that long-haul flight). I can finish it but it is one of the more non-standard (weird) and blunt drinks I've had in several months. Waaaay too off-piste from anything beer-like, in fact anything I'd choose to drink, for me to wish to drink again. ps. So pungent and weird I'm going to have to get a fresh glass for the rest of the evening's beer.

Review/scoring all done, now the reveal, I get to read the bottle lables to see what I missed! --> Contains: sugar, orange peel and coriander.

A 330ml bottle with a BB of March 2018, so it's just out of date. Acquired a while back from a webshop. The label describes it as a tripel; the ingredients include sugar, orange peel and coriander.

A: Poured into a tulip. Bottle conditioned. A deep, hazy amber colour with plentiful floating sediment and intense carbonation. Yields a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a minute or so before reducing to a patchy surface layer.

S: Aroma of amber malt with hints of barley sugar, subtle caramel, grain, fruity yeast esters, coriander, spice, mild orange peel and earthiness. Strangely sweet. OK but a bit weird.

T: Tastes of sweet amber malt with notes of barley sugar, vague grain, fruity yeast, spice, orange peel, earthiness and faint leafiness. Perhaps a twinge of oxidation. Slightly sweet, followed by a subtle spicy bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with lively carbonation and good body. Mildly astringent, with a touch of spicy heat on the palate. Aftertaste of sweet malt, barley sugar, spice, fruity yeast, faint orange peel and earthiness.

O: OK but a bit odd - seems like a bizarre hybrid of a tripel and a wit. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are fruity, spicy and strangely sweet. Nice body. Not dry enough for a tripel but not the right yeast profile for a wit. Perhaps this is just an English brewery's lopsided take on a Belgian-style beer. Decent but no need to seek it out.

Tap @ Moor Brewery, Bristol - Pours cloudy golden with a medium white foamy head. Medium carbonation. Nice lacing. Aroma - bready/yeasty forefront, fruity esters - banana, spice - coriander. Taste - Sweet front, light yeasty feel, spice middle - coriander, light fruit esters - banana, crisp bitter finish, little alcoholic warmth but not overwhelming. Nice Belgian style ale, more wit than tripel in my opinion.
