19.2 oz can poured into a pint

A- pours a clear golden color with a one finger foamy white head that has good retention

S- zesty grapefruit with some juicy orange, grassy with a hint of pine. Light bready malt undertone

T- zesty citrus and resinous pine up front, followed by some fresh grassy notes. Mid-palate gives some sweet bready malt undertones with a hint of peach and mango, the finish gives more citrus and pine with a hint of booze

M- medium body with medium carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that continues into a crisp finish

O- classic west coast style IPA’s are harder to come by these days, this one is very good

Double Basement 8.5% ABV poured from a Pint can

Look: Golden copper color with decent lacing.

Smell: Resiny pine but not as strong as I expected

Taste: Not too hoppy up front, resiny mouth feel fades into hoppy dryness. Surprisingly (dangerously) easy to drink for an 8.5%. I am a big Basement fan, being from GA, and really like this DIPA, though definitely a "one and done"

Feel: Light carbonation, long resiny finish; nice feel and not overpowering

Overall: really like this beer. It is not an "everyday" beer but very enjoyable.

NOTE: don't confuse this with Double Jeopardy, Scofflaw's Imperial 10.5%. That is also an outstanding beer and very different. As stated previously, I am not unbiased as a local fan of Scofflaw.

12oz can from Sprayberry Bottle Shop ( Marietta, GA). 3.65. Canned 6/13/18. Served in a Scofflaw snifter. Enjoyed 6/30/18.

Pours a deep amber with over two fingers of manilla head. The tall cap recedes slowly, leaving some surface haze and wide collar but the only lacing is a few small trails where the initial head rested.

Smells of overripe oranges, lemongrass and bread. The citrus here is pretty abundant.

Flavors are fairly bitter and resinous with a pleasant nip of booze. Orange blossom, lemon, a floral grassy note and alcohol-laden cereal graininess.

Slick, full body with moderate carbonation. Fairly bitter aftertaste of lemony citrus and light grain.

Scofflaw has upped the ante on their flagship IPA. Double Basement is basically what you might expect- Basement on steroids.

12 oz can from GA with a 13 June 2018 canning date. Served in a pint glass in August 2018.
Pours with an amber body and a very good off-white head.
This DIPA manages to be bold without being either harsh or overly bitter. The alcohol is well hidden, especially in the aroma, making it dangerously drinkable. The can says 110 IBU, which may be true, but there's plenty of countering, sweet malts.
Overall: recommended.
