500mL from the brewery. Bottled 9/11/18. Served in a Scofflaw snifter. Enjoyed 12/28/18.
Pours a deep dark tea brown with dense manilla head. Rests in the glass essentially black. Collar and surface retention persist but leave no lacing.
The aroma matches the label well. Vanilla, coffee and bourbon are all present, along with brown sugar, wet wood, and a little roast character.
Tastes decadent and a bit boozey. Creamed coffee, vanilla, bourbon, caramel, chocolate, wet lightly charred wood and burnt sugar.
Fullish feel with fairly mild carbonation. The rich, boozey finish is like bourbon-spiked caramel vanilla macchiato.
Happy second anniversary Scofflaw! This coffee and vanilla iteration of Absentium is my favorite yet. I’m a sucker for barrel aged coffee stouts and this one hits all the right notes for me.
