Very dark appearance with slight tan head that dissipates quickly. Aroma is a mild blend of maple and vanilla. Taste is a very smooth maple and vanilla.

Blind bottle for NBS 8.5 bottle from @jbowenga
A - Agressive pour yields about a half inch mocha colored head. It goes down to about a quarter inch fairly quickly but laces the glass quite well.
A - Smells like pure maple syrup with some sweetness from some barrel aging.
T - Definitely a barrel aged maple stout. Picking up a little bitterness, so first thought was maybe coffee?? Letting the beer warm up, the sweetness that I thought was all barrel also brought notes of vanilla.
F - Slightly higher carb for a BA stout than I would expect or look for. It's pretty smooth and not cloying.
O - This was a very tasty beer. I enjoyed it. Not too sweet like other maple stouts that I have had.

500mL bottle from Sprayberry Bottle Shop (Marietta, GA). 14.99, I believe. Bottled 11/19/18. Served in a Scofflaw snifter. Enjoyed 12/13/18.
Pours black with a generous cap of khaki froth. Once that head dissipates a narrow crown remains, along with a few modest patches on the surface and a couple thin strings of lace.
Aromas are sweet and beckoning. Maple glaze, vanilla, chocolate bourbon, brown sugar and a gentle nod to oak.
As expected from the nose this is a seriously sweet brew. Glazed maple donuts, vanilla-tinged bourbon, dark cocoa, brown sugar, a pine-like bitterness, some char and a healthy alcohol presence.
A hearty body and gentle carbonation give this a rather full feel. Boozey notes of maple glaze and burnt brownie linger in the finish.
I haven’t tried very many of Scofflaw’s myriad variations of Absentium but this Vanilla Maple version is my favorite so far. You have to be ready for near-cloying and fairly hot but that sort of thing works just fine for me.
