Had on-tap at Mekong's in Sandusky, Ohio.
This is a very nice black IPA, I'll get that right out there. In the snifter it looked gorgeous with a deep black color and a couple fingers of a creamy, dark brown head on it. To top it all off, there was quite a lot of lacing as well. Very nice.
The beer as a WHOLE is very good. The smooth body with the chocolate flavors would make for a great stout by itself, but the bitter hops and intense herbal, pine, and citrus rind flavors they provide make this a pretty deep beer. The balance isn't quite where I'd like for it to be, but I don't think there's much denying that this is a brew worth trying.
My only real fault with this beer is that the alcohol is a bit too prominent for its ABV. The alcohol comes through enough to make it almost seem like it's 11%, but the body doesn't -- for that reason, it's slightly off-putting. Regardless of that, this is enjoyable and warrants a buy.

Looks the part but very sweet with little hop bite. Smooth but reminds me more of a quad. Would be nice if they had added more bittering hops to balance it out. Not a bad beer but there are better in the style.
