Around the brewery we listen to a lot of reggae, drink a fair share of coffee. And are devoted to our barrel aging program. In 2015, we had a one off imperial stout aging in barrels for close to a year. These barrels had a rich chocolate/vanilla character, but were asking for a boost. Stauf’s coffee roasters in Columbus, OH nailed the perfect roast on some authentic Jamacian Blue Mountain coffee to compement this barrel-aged stout. The illustration on this label is of Charlie Ace’s Swing-a-ling mobile record shack which was notorious for broadcasting “Champion Sound!” An additional conditioning on toasted coconut adds even more island vibes to this decadent coffee stout.

12.7oz bottle. '2021' is posted on the label as the year of brewing and bottling.
Dark cola colored body. Brief, fizzy dark tan head. Active surface show. No lacing.
Aroma of dark roasted malts, bourbon barrel and oak, coffee, and coconut. Smells sweet.
Taste is a liquid blend of coffee and coconut over dark roasted malts. Some dark chocolate brownie bites. Big influence from the bourbon barrel, with oak and dark fruit. Sweet bourbon in the aftertaste, and the coconut.
More than medium mouth feel. Higher ABV% is well hidden. Good supportive carbonation.
Complex brew, with many competing components. Bourbon barrel and coconut sweeten the pot.

There’s a lot of coffee and a good deal of coconut. I’m not sure the coconut actually makes it better or if the flavors are fighting a bit. Barrel aging too, so there’s a lot going on. It’s quite good.

Jet black with light brown speckling and thin cap. Nose is led by bourbon and coffee, with supporting dark chocolate, coconut, and toasty oak, but not super potent. Taste opens up a bit: starring coconut, coffee, and chocolate soaked in bourbon, well balanced with malt tones. Feel is warm and smooth, classic jackie o's full body without being heavy or hot. Coconut was a welcome addition

Very little head production or retention, but it's an attractive beer somehow. No floaties or particulate, despite the coconut and coffee additions.
Nice amount of bourbon on the nose, along with hints of vanilla, coconut, and coffee. Not a super strong nose, but very, very pleasant and inviting.
As modest as the nose may be, there's no holding back on the palate. Rich, sweet, and decadent, almost like a liquid brownie up front. Notes of bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, brown sugar; coffee and coconut are certainly milder but nicely complementary flavors, while the coffee manages to linger on the back end with a nice bitterness.
Full bodied; almost stickier than chewy. Noticeable alcohol heat, but it's not harsh.

Pours dark and clear, thick and syrupy, hard to get any head. Has a very nice aroma - boozy coconut, chocolate syrup, light coffee, bourbon barrel all mix together perfectly. Flavor is chocolate, vanilla, light coconut, coffee on the finish, bourbon barrel rounds it all out nicely. Flat carbonation, and I would expect a bit more texture to this - maybe the lack of carbonation makes it feel thin, yet syrupy. Overall, I wish there was more coconut. Pretty tasty beer, a bit expensive…

Poured from fridge temp into a Jackie O's tulip. Pours jet black, of course. Little head. Nose is amazing. Coffee, coconut, vanilla, bourbon, chocolate, marshmallow, a hint of blueberry, toffee, and other dark fruits. The taste is fantastic. Slight bitterness from the coffee on the aftertaste. Sweet upfront, with beautiful notes of chocolate fudge, vanilla, coconut, toffee, burnt wood, figs, blackberries and raisins. Mouthfeel is thick and creamy. Overall a fantastic take on a fantastic beer.

L - black and oily with a hazelnut head that quickly disappeared
S - bourbon, coffee, coconut
T - bourbon and coffee with a light coconut taste on the late finish (just the way I like it)
F - thick mouthfeel with minimal carbonation
