This 11.5% barrel-aged barleywine pours a rich brown color, foam head disappears quickly and smells of fruit and smoke. Taste follows the nose and adds a sweet caramel note too; finishes smooth and somewhat smokey. Nicely done.

Poured a murky non-translucent dark brown color. The head was minimal, disappeared quickly. At the nose, there were abundant pitted dark fruits - plums, currants. Trace of sweet vanilla and at room temp, charred bourbon came in. Absolutely no trace of smokiness. But then I took a sip and the smoke started to develop - especially at the finish. As the beer returned to warmer temp, there was a nice smoke, heat, and spiciness, combined coming from the smoke and bourbon. Love it. Also plenty of dark fruits wit notes of caramel. Mouthfeel is medium bodied. Overall a nice barley wine that leaves me wanting more smoke in the beer. It falls a little short of what the label says - definitely has potential!

Looks good, but lacks body, smoke and barrel presence.

Muddy prune juice brown with creamy whisps of tan film just on the surface, and that's it.
Smell is oak, maple, woody smoke, grape cough syrup and prune.
Boy am I glad I didn’t buy this. It has a sort of tart note to it under the smoke, like pineapple, with grape, candy apple, and a woodiness that's splintery and ashy, and almost peaty.
The medium-light body has a crisp firm fizz and a very powder dry finish.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2018 vintage. Served in a Jackie O's snifter, the beer pours a murky brownish/copper color with about an inch light tan head that fizzled away kinda quickly. There's a small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like bourbon, vanilla, caramel, dark fruit, and a bit of smokiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's the addition of some brown sugar and toffee flavors. Smoke flavor is light, but noticeable. Does get a little smokier as it warms, but it's still not a strong smoke flavor. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good overall brew, might have to pick up another bottle and see how it ages! $11.99 a bottle.
