A rich and unique blend from our diverse and adventurous barrel program, this is a beer we have dreamed of making for a long time! A number of exceptional bourbon barrels were set aside to create this barrel aged imperial stout, exuding and undeniably round and rich character with notes of toasted almonds and charred marshmallows.

Cocoa, molasses, bourbon, caramel. Chewy and sticky mouthfeel. Awesome BA stout.

The fine folks of Athen's premier brewery finds great success with the Dark Apparition, so they are challenging that barrel-aging notion for greater complexity, aged compounds and a simmering boost of strength with specially selected boubon barrels that not only meet the flavors that are expected to wear the name of Dark Apparition, but exceeding them.
Mysteriously dark brown and deep with tawny mocha color, the thin veil of haze approaches stillness for added ominous attributes. A boisterous rift of coffee, wonderfully burnt sugars, luxurious malt, maple, molasses and chocolate waft about the nose with an unmistakable spice of Kentucky whisky.
Fudge, brownie batter and mocha flavors are sinister in their decadedence as the malty-rich taste of roasted malt, espresso and bittersweet chocolates unapologetically splash the taste buds with its sultry sherry-like fruitiness and oaken beauty. Savory, fruity and awash with bourbon characteristics pave the way for a decadent finish of rum, coconut, vanilla and chocolate with the spicy warmth kahlua and bourbon spice.
Full, inky and fat with malt sweetness, the body celebrates nuances of fortified acidities, simmering bourbon warmth, wood spices and caramelized dryness for a finish that is pleasantly tannic, and plaster-like, sweet and soothing with a simmering warmth in the back of the throat with a long linger of chocolate, marzipan and bourbon that extends well into the next sip.

Muddy black with cola brown edges and a thin fizzy tan blanket that's uncharacteristically persistent for a JO's beer, leaving a few thin arms of lace on the glass.
This special barrel selection exhibits tons of dark fruit--prune, raisin, fig, date--it's just a melange. It's sweet of them, even grapey at times, and yet some barrel char is present too, without the booze surprisingly enough.
The body is fluidly smooth and moderate with minimal tiny bubbles finishing semi-dry with a soft sting, bringing a caramel and brown sugar exhale.
