Created as an homage to Appalachian agriculture, Middle of Nowhere was brewed with wildflower honey, maple syrup, & oats, all from Ohio. Brewed as our last batch of 2017, this lavish Imperial Stout rested patiently in bourbon barrels for 16 months.

375 ml bottle into a snifter. 2019 edition, had 4/23/20.

Pours a dark brown, mostly opaque, with a half inch foamy head and light, soapy cling. Aromas of malt, bourbon, cocoa, chocolate, oak, vanilla, maple, some molasses, some char. The flavor shows more bourbon and maple than the aroma, then roasted malt, chocolate, cocoa, vanilla, oak, some figs and molasses, light char. Has a light herbal note and a little sweetness on the finish. Smooth, a very good full body, well carbonated.

Nicely balanced with great aromas and flavors. Solid barrels, the maple is tempered but effective. Very enjoyable.

Very tasty imperial stout purchased in Cincinnati BF (before virus).

Pours very dark brown into a tulip glass. Decent beige head and good lacing. Dark chocolate and bourbon smell and taste. Pleasantly sweet and boozy. Slightly herbal which is different for an imperial stout.

12.7 ounce bottle, 2019 bottling. Served in a Jackie O's snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about a half inch tan head that didn't stay around too long. Pretty much no lacing at all. I like the aroma, the brew smells like vanilla, bourbon, maple, brown sugar, honey, oak and fudge. I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's the addition of some coffee, burnt/charred malt and molasses flavors. Mouthfeel/body is medium/full, it's a bit sticky and coating with a low/moderate amount of carbonation. Not too boozy considering it's 14% ABV. Definitely worth trying if you're into imperial stouts! $11.99 a bottle.

Oily black with a tan head that slowly fades. So much barrel and booze on the nose, with char, honey and chocolate, no maple to be found. Taste is a boozy and sweet mess, plus it is harshly so. Bourbon booze, char, molasses, wood, more booze, sickly sweet honey, sickly sweet chocolate, more booze and wood, and some brief sickly sweet caramel, completely lacks balance or refinement. Feel is obviously boozy, sticky, and the body finishes bright allowing more booze in. The alcoholic's delight: booze and sugar

L - pours semi-clear out of the glass and settles into a dark cola brown. Minimal head; barely leaves a ring of delicate lacing.

S - bourbon, booze, and oats! Sweet caramel drizzle and toasted vanilla. White chocolate. Sugar-glazed bananas, perhaps.

T - woof, that's hot. In direct contrast to the alcohol heat, we have oat-softened caramel milk chocolate. Honey adds a sweetened bite with a hint of iced latte. Rich bourbon barrel and not a ton of maple, but maybe some molasses. Finishes relatively tame. Not nearly as much stickiness as one would expect from 14%.

F - smooth and creamy, but on the thinner side for this ABV. Ends a bit watery actually. Can get into trouble drinking this one if you're not careful.

O - the oats are a winner here. For such high ABV, this manages to stay smooth and controlled. None of the flavors really pop or feel particularly high quality, but it has a lot of them and they're varied enough to be exciting.

Released 5/10/19; drank 7/13/19 @ the Yarchives.

Last stout with their old brewer @beace ?

Black appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small tan head; frothy lace.

Bourbon, caramel, charred oak & faint milk chocolate notes in the nose.

Thick, creamy mouthfeel.

Bourbon, caramel & cream flavors up front; mild oak & faint milk chocolate notes on the finish.

Too boozy and too sweet for me to really love; it's not bad, but it's not one to seek out.

An imperial oatmeal stout with wildflower honey, maple syrup, and
laid to rest for 16 months (!!!!) in bourbon barrels! YUM!

This beast pours a muddled blackish brown with cola highlights and a
light head of tan foam that settles to a thin ring with light lacing. Nose of
maples, bourbon, vanilla, oak, fudge, and subtle char and roast with light
coffee notes. Flavors hit it out of the park, dark roasted malts over a bed
of bourbon and vanilla with mild oak and rich dark chocolate fudge that
is dashed with dark roasted coffee and brandy notes. Some dark fruit notes
appear with warmth as does an herbal malt note which is most likely the
wildflower honey. excellent mouth feel; full body, smooth as silk, warming,
big, boozy, rich, low carbonation, and a subtly dry finish.

100 percent pure Jackie O's. Always a treat!

Cheers
