Struggled a bit to figure out if this is the same beer. But it is a scouts #4 2020 bottle of Double Barrel Dark Apparition.
Part of a large swap with @Artizen, Thank you!
Beer is at cellar temp and poured into my trusty snifter. Pours a dark cola brown color with minimal beige head foaming up. This foam is dense and creamy in appearance but fades to the thinnest of edge rings soon after the pour. The beer doesnt give any lattice, but does give some oily legs when I swirl my glass.
Aroma is brown sugar, molassess, burnt malt, a bit of bourbon and some dark chocolate. Not really boozy nor any hop character. Nose is good.
First sip reveals a medium body with smooth texture and soft, gentle carbonation. easy drinking, but a little less body than I anticipated on this beer.
Flavor is matching the nose, although i still dont get any rum nor coconut from the barrels.
I get a good bit of dark chocolate and brown sugar, this mixes with bourbon and molasses and finishes with a little bit of a warming note. I dont get any hop character here and the flavor that lingers is a molasses or burnt sugar note. This is a good imperial stout that works well and is dangerously smooth, but I was hoping for a bigger body. Still worth it but not as good as some of the other stouts Ive been having from Jackie Os.
