Barleywine aged patiently in rye whiskey and bourbon barrels for 13 months, Decorating Pieces of Time carries notes of toffee, light caramel, Fuji apple, and raisin. The name comes from a Frank Zappa interview, in which he made the statement that “music only exists to decorate pieces of time,” which perfectly correlates to beer.

Look - really dark brown with a nice mostly white head and fantastic rimming and lacing
Smell - wow, fantastic! toffee, brown sugar, vanilla, barrel slight spice
Taste - toffee with a rye spice upfront with caramel raisin slight apple.
Feel - Full body with a fizzy tingly light carb slightly creamy

Poured at fridge temp, but allowed to warm for a solid 10 minutes before tasting. Pours a nice murky reddish brown. The nose is fantastic. Rich toffee comes through first. Beautiful bourbon and vanilla come next. Some prunes and maybe apricots, along with a nice hint of marmalade. Lovely.

The taste is a toffee bomb, and I love it. Truly comes across as chewy toffee candy soaked in bourbon. Vanilla, slight maple, graham cracker, malts, slight brown sugar, and some nice dark fruit. Love this one a lot.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate alcohol heat. Definitely doesn't taste like 12.7%

Picked up a bottle at the Appalachian Vintner in Asheville 12-7-22 for $14.99. Consumed 10-7-23.

Beer poured murky brown with an okay off-white head.

Nose is very nice, full of bourbon-soaked dark fruit.

Taste is very stellar as the large malt base gives notes of figs, raisons, and toffee. The barrel brings in a wonderful element of vanilla with a deft touch of bourbon in the end that balances things nicely.

Mouthfeel is medium to large bodied and very smooth.

Overall a nice DPOT variant with this being straight forward whiskey barrels.

Look: It pours brown with a bit of clouding. It has a tan head with low head retention.

Smell: It has strong malty aromas of toffee with apple and rye. There are some background notes of bourbon and raisins with a bit of brown sugar.

Taste: It has strong toffee flavors with rye. There are some apple elements with raisin and cherries. It has bourbon elements in the finish with very low nuts.

Feel: It has a thick chewy body with smooth warming in the finish.

Overall, the aroma is intoxicating in its own right. The flavors blend really well together.

Huge booze soaked dates dominate this one. Burned brown sugar, vanilla, toasted macadamia nuts, butterscotch, overripe pears, and more round out this decadently sweet treat. Bit of a shame about the brandy barrels but I'm still enjoying the hell out of this.
