Last of the Dark Apparition variants I had at the party last December.

A - Pretty much like the other Dark Apparition variants. Black beer, small brown head, little bit of lacing left behind.

S - Good bit of orange peel some vanilla. Lots of Cardamom, really it's just a bit too much for this beer, although I won't deny it gives it a unique aroma. Just too much spice.

T - Cardamom kind of blows everything else out of the water on this one. The second most prominent flavor is the orange peel, with just a little bit of a vanilla. Tastes like my concept of some sort of Arabic tea or something. Kind of hard to get down.

M - Smooth, moderate carb, close to full bodied.

O - The flavors are so bold and unusual it's a bit hard to drink. I think there's good beer to potentially be made here, but this will need some refinement.

On tap at the brew pub as part of Dark App tasting flight... Dark brown, bordering on black pour. A light tan head that is gone quickly... The nose has me a bit worried, although while something new the practical(taste) side of this may be rough. You get orange peel and vanilla which are good, but the cardamom that comes through is 1. way too strong and 2. doesn't smell very good... The taste is just really not good, one of the only true fails I've seen so far here. The spice on the nose comes through ten times stronger, way too overbearing. Maybe I'm just not a cardamom fan, but this is something I would not try again in the future.

Pours dark with some light brown head like the other variations. A pretty pour. Smells of orange peels and spice with bits of roasted malts coming through. Tastes like roasted malts with strong orange rines. Hints of spice and pine coming through. Not particularly drinkable... its a very unusual taste that doesn't quite sit well with me

On tap at the brewpub on December 30, 2010.

While this was an interesting brew, it was definitely my least favorite of the Dark Apparition varieties that I tried, which I think at this point was nearly all of them. The beer itself was a very dark brown with a tan tan head and a bit of a bubbly cap as it faded. The nose was interesting and the vanilla mixed well with everything. The orange peel came out a bit, but eventually was a bit dominated by the cardamom. The flavor suffered the same fate but to a much larger degree with the cardamom's spice really taking it up a notch and taking over the other characteristics of the beer, even the base. This spice carried over into the feel and certainly affected the drinkability.

On-tap at the Jackie Os 5th Anniversary Celebration

A- Body is a very dark brown, nearly black hue-served with a thin off white collar. Traces of red can be seen when held up to the light.

S- Whoa. Very strong medicinal smell upfront-smells like a wound care combination of meds used in the hospital-I guess this would be the Cardamom blasting through and taking the highlight. Behind this is orange peel, a hint of vanilla sweetness-oh and dark appirition.

T- Flavor is similar to the smell-the cardamom is the most dominant upfront and really overshines the stout-which has complexity described in my former review behind it. The finish saves the beer as the medicinal flavor turns herbal and almost minty and balances with the base beer pretty well.

M- Medium carbonation and a heavy body.

D- This beer is all about the cardamom- with a hint of orange peel and a stout behind it. Its very different and quite a novelty beer if you are into that sort of thing. Its certainly unique and not like any other brew I have tried before-the closest I can think of is DFH Chicory stout. This was pretty much the only beer at the anniversary celebration that I tried and did not really like.
