Tasted this one at Dark Lord Day 2012. Served in a taster glass. Pours a very dark brown color with a thin off-white head and not much in the way of lacing, though there’s a bit of a collar. The nose brings a touch of booze along with nice notes of coffee, roast, and dark chocolate. Flavor is full of chocolate and a bit of warming alcohol. Body is medium-full with low-ish carbonation. Another nice beer from Brad. Very enjoyable.

Johndoe8 shared this one. Thanks, Rich.

Dense black body with minimal carbonation or head formation.

Equal amounts malt sweetness and roast on the nose, decidedly sweeter than regular DA. Dark chocolate, anise, fairly well hidden alcohol.

Palate is good but slightly rougher than the nose. Malty, grainy, plenty of roastiness. Moderately sweet, but not syrupy by any means. Some booze comes through in the finish. This was pretty enjoyable, less thin and acrid than regular Dark Apparition.

Dark brownish black with some reddish caramel hues in the edges. Nice thick creamy head. Good lacing and awesome retention.
This smells nice-- it almost reminds me of really fresh Kate the Great somehow... Possibly in the smooth well-balanced tastiness.
Lots of chocolate, coffee, and caramel notes.
I'm amazed at how well the alcohol is hidden here-- I pick up some, but it is very nice and pleasant, providing a nice warming feel.
Velvety and smooth feel. Really nice carbonation.

Overall-- very impressed. I would drink this all night!

On tap at the Brewpub a couple releases ago, review from notes.

Black, with a nice persistent cap of dark foam. Surprisingly enough (or maybe not... I guess my understanding of everything that goes on during icing is pretty minimal) this was the best-looking Dark Apparition variation of the day. Looks very heavy and dense - this much does seem to make sense to me though post-icing.

Smells of roasted coffee and nice heavy black malts. There's some burnt toast/char type of character on the back end. All of this, however, is superseded by strong astringent booze. Surprised? Not this guy.

The flavor is also quite dark and heavy. Again char and coffee flavors provide bitterness. There is also the taste of mild peanuts and vanilla.

Hot hot hot baby! This beer is strong as hell. I like it, but even a sample pour is a sipper on this one.

Overall this was a surprisingly nice beer, but the coffee is worlds better.

On tap at Jackie O's Brewery Side at the June release. Tasted side by side with Coffee Ice Apparition. I've had this before at previous releases.

Appearance
This one looked nicer than the coffee version. It actually, somehow, held a nice head that eventually faded to a very thick collar. There was a lot of lacing as well. The beer just looks super thick and pure black.

Aroma
This really is just Dark Apparition, with its ashy smoke, ramped up. Coffee and vanilla mix with lots of licorice rope and dark fruits.

Taste
The ashiness is reserved for the aroma, where the fruitiness and licorice notes are really coming out in the flavor. Its all very dense and rich. The potency of the flavors alone make this a sipper, leave alone the alcohol.

Mouthfeel
Equally as full bodied and sludgy thick as the coffee version but the alcohol really packs a wallop here. This beer is slow, syrupy and hot.

Overall
This one is pretty brutal and intense, but a really enjoyable drink.

Got to try the Dark Apparition Ice or Ice Apparition before it was at the 6/25/2011 bottle sale, and again at the sale.

Appearance - Dark brown-black with minimal light chocolate head.

Smell - D.A.'s chocolate, coffee, vanilla, raisin, toffee, malty, nutty scent but stronger and boozy. Maybe more vanilla.

Taste - Stronger more concentrated than D.A. All of the chocolate, coffee, vanilla, raisin, toffee, malty, nutty flavors of Dark Apparition with a burning boozy finish.

Mouthfeel - Coating and alcohol warmth.

Overall - I love the regular Dark Apparition and feel this may be a bit overkill, but if you want an extra boozy Russian Imperial, and like the warm feel as it goes down, this may be the ticket.
