... First off, I'm not 100% on how fresh/age this beer is as it was sent to me as a result of a trade....but in general, I thought it seemed to come across a bit flat....I shared with some family at Christmas - whom felt the same...
a - dirty, murky reddish pour with not real head or accumulation on the top....but good color..
s - faded presence of hops...I've been looking forward to trying Jackie O's for a long time, but this one did not live up to expectations...some muted aromas of fruit/citrus additions
t - noncarbonated ipa... outside of that, it was kinda nondescript...
m - bit heavier in body for an IPA, but nothing crazy
o - Chalking this one up to freshness factor... Will have to look for fresh Jackie O's as I think I missed the boat on this one...

I had this on tap this weekend during the Jackie O's release event. Poured into a sample glass.
Appearance: Pours a clear dark reddish amber with a mild off white head.
Smell: Fruity hops with lots of citrus. Tangerine and some pineapple. Mildly herbal and some sweet malt.
Taste: This one reminded me a lot of hoppy iced tea. The bitter citrus peel hops were quite good, but the taste was a bit weird. I think there was an apricot flavor in there. There was an herbal quality to the taste and the finish was bitter.
Mouthfeel: Medium body with fluffy head and a dry finish.
Overall: This was different than anything else I've ever had. It really did take like hoppy iced tea. I'm glad I tried it, and I enjoyed it enough, but I don't think I would go back to it again.

golden amber with wonderful clarity, three inches of white foam quickly develops on the top of the beer. Settles slowly, but surely into a sticky, glass coating mess that lets you know you are dealing with a monster.
Such crisp, ripe citrus aroma, this may be hands down the best smelling double IPA I have ever run across, it really is just that good. Oranges and heaps of sugary tangerine goodness are just oozing out of this one, Simply spellbinding as it tugs you in and will not let go, not for a moment. Then you manage to make it past the cloud of citrus and into the first sip, and then its over. The smoothness of the profile as the hops are seemlessly blended to the point you get the full brunt of the orange and pineapple flavor but your palate is not torn apart. Remarkable beer.

On tap at Jackie O's last weekend.
Unfortunately, I wasn't quite as enthused about this one as the regular version, though it was still a tasty brew. The nose brings some overpowering hops, though they're a bit too much. It's more of a hop bomb with the characteristics folding together and not shining as a group like they did in the regular Matriarch. The flavor is along the same lines. Still quite enjoyable, but didn't hit the level of the regular version. Strong bitterness and a medium body. Good brew.
