This Imperial Stout was brewed with tons of European and American malt before aging in California grape brandy and Kentucky bourbon barrels for 20 months. This blend showcases what can be uncovered when you explore beyond your comfort zone, together.
Made in collaboration with our buds at Bissell Brothers in Portland, Maine. We set out to make an Imperial Stout melding an intriguing blend of European caramel and chocolate malts. The can showcases the dynamic art of our own John Schriner.

Pours a tiny fizzy head that disappears almost instantly, jet black, mild inky stains on the glass
Nose brings a lot of chocolate and vanilla, dark chocolate, cocoa, some roasted malts and dark roasted coffee, a little fudgey, rich vanilla, oaky barrel, a bit of sweet bourbon, baking spices, cookie dough, a bit of nougat, juicy bourbon and a little fruity brandy perhaps, more sweet chocolate covered cherry and brandy as it warms
Taste starts thick and rich, chewy like heavy dark malts, roasted malts with a little burnt note but not acrid, dark chocolate, cocoa, fudge brownie, chocolate cake even, with more cookie dough, some baking spices, coffee, nougat, molasses, into vanilla barrel, toasted oak, vanilla frosting, some bourbon juice, very mild fruity brandy, bitter roast and mild spicy hop notes, finishes rich sticky mouth coating with half dissolved powered cocoa feel
Mouth is very thick rich chewy like, a little creamy velvety, med to lower but noticeable small bubble carb, fair warming alcohol
Overall nice, a great imperial stout that took on some nice barrel characters, while super rich and heavy it's not over the top

Pours a dense very dark brown, with some fizz, but not that much, and certainly no lasting head.
Smell is rich chocolate bourbon.
Taste is the same. Brandy barrel isn't all the present. Maybe it helps add some richness to the beer.
Feel is great, plenty of richness, but balanced by the light fizz.
Certainly quite similar to previous BBA beers from Jackie O's.

Poured on tap at the brewery in Athens. Pours jet black with minimal head. The nose is brandy, berries, toffee, and chocolate. The taste follows the nose. Chocolate, brandy, figs, barrel, and vanilla. Not too sweet. Lovely.

The body has a large black void surrounded by a burnt brown aura topped by a thin chocolate blanket that quickly dissipates to a fine collar.
As the big, rich barrel presence meets the dark malts, it suggests Riesen with a hint of molasses before exhaling dark red wine tannin and mild char. As I return, I begin to detect almond.
The medium, slick body comes to a clean, pleasantly semi-dry finish.
