We brewed this lavish stout with our good pals at Little Fish back in March of 2024, and the brew day had a very interesting twist! After running off the strongest wort from the mash into our kettle, we collected 12bbls of lower gravity ‘second runnings’ from the remaining mash into a transferable tote. This is a historical brewing technique called ‘parti-gyle’ brewing! The tote was taken to Little Fish where they added it to their kettle and brewed a Dark Mild Ale called, ‘Hit Clips’. What fun! 22 months after aging in New York AppleJack barrels, In the Neighborhood emerged. We had a great collaborative blending session with the Little Fish team, & we’re all super pleased with the product we’re presenting and honored to share it with you.

Poured from a twelve ounce can, the body is black with little head and no lacing.

Aroma is a bit boozy and is a delightful mix of apple brandy, oak and vanilla.

Taste follows nose with an added chocolate malt that pairs well with the brandy. A touch of alcohol swallow, but it is not hot. Warming brings added depth with chocolate, fig and raisin notes.

At first mouthfeel is medium to heavy. As it warmed, mouthfeel began to get sticky but not cloyingly sweet. Little carbonation.

12oz can served in a snifter. Date on bottom of can: Canned I 05-05-26 12:23

Appearance: Very dark beer - black and letting no light through. Dark brown head that slowly died back to a thin ring of foam with just a few islands and thin strands of lacing noted.

Smell: A fine brandy note, a hint of vanilla and oak, some toasted malts.

Taste: A very smooth blending of flavors. Roasted malt with plenty of malt sweetness for balance, with an overall tilt towards sweetness. Definite vanilla note, and some of the apple brandy alongside some mild bittersweet chocolate notes. Very tasty.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth and creamy, slick, barest amount of carbonation. A tiny bit warming, but not as much as I thought it would be from the higher ABV.

Overall / Drinkability: A delightful beer. Very rich and the aging in apple brandy barrels brought a nice taste to this stout for a different take on an American Imperial Stout. Sometimes the aging in different liquor barrels doesn't quite work (I've not thought stouts in Tequilla or Rum barrels is always as good as you would think it would be), but this one complements the stout nicely. Dangerously drinkable - I could easily have another and regret everything the rest of the evening. Would go very well with a dessert.
