6/14/23 27th Anniversary trip (for beer for sure!) Jackie O's Public House, Athens, OH.
Always enjoy trying a Cascacadian/Black IPA when I can.
Aroma first... On the tropical side. Sweet orange and lime. Maybe apricot; something sweet anyway. Nothing roasty comes across.
Roasty comes across in taste. Sweeter than expected for a black. Somewhat bright and tropical. Above average overall.

Aroma: Dank grassy hop aroma up front. Light chocolate background notes. Light lemon and orange background aromas. Clean fermentation character.
Appearance: Jet black pour with a 2 finger khaki head. Bubbles are tight and leaves sticky lacing. Appears still in the glass.
Flavor: Firm and high earthy and roasty bitterness up front. Moderate background chocolate flavors that blend well with the grassy hops. Balance is firmly to the hop bitterness. Finish is clean and dry. Aftertaste lingers with grassy hop notes.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with high carbonation. No alcohol heat or creaminess. Slight hop derived astringency.
Overall impression: A nice, grassy Black IPA. Accented dark roasted flavors are a nice counterpoint to the grassy hop base. Nicely done!
