cool too see a style like this at a new brewery in the suburbs, its really happening everywhere not isnt it?! i like to see a lower alcohol take on the style too, they serve it in a (funny shaped) pint glass, and its still a beer im left wanting to have more than one of. about as smooth and crisp as they go, plenty full bodied, bubbly, dry, and packed with deep dark grain flavor. it has a bit of chocolate in the nose, more of a coffee quality from the dark malt in the flavor, but is so nonabrasive i cant believe it. it almost feels like its setting up to be a huge long bitter evolution, but the yeast kicks into gear and nips this before it barely gets off and running. i think thats pretty cool, the crisp dry lager nature of this, but i also like the flavor a lot and wouldnt mind it running a little bit. coffee and vanilla notes in here, dark chocolate and wood, bready bakery yeast, puffy marshmallow texture, awesome beer. this was my first from these guys, and the only one i had time for when i visited the brewery, but it has me definitely keen to make the drive down again and drink through the rest of their lineup. one of the better local takes on this tricky style i have had...
