A mason jar pint at the Rhino.
This beer pours a clear, dark copper amber hue, with one finger of fine, somewhat foamy beige head, which leaves a decent slopped wall of pitted lace around the glass as it evenly abates.
It smells of mild citrus rind, a bit of pine branch bitterness, and soft bready caramel malt, with some further leafy, floral hops. The taste is bitter floral and citrus hops, toffee and bread dough, some apple and pear fruitiness, and more leafy, some boozed-up hops.
The bubbles are a tad astringent, lending a minor cutting edge to the affair, the body a thin, underfed medium weight, whose smoothness quotient takes a big hit from the attendent edginess. It finishes fairly off-dry, the understated caramel malt and timidly bitter floral, kind of stale citrus hops tilting thataway.
With more of that boozy, floral character, I'm led to assume a certain IPA house character, as I recall none of that from experiencing the Black Pils or the Tumblewheat. Underwhelming, to say the least, for the promise of a single-hopped offering, and Amarillo at that.
