look: three finger tan coloured head on the pour which dissipates slowly to a one finger head with good retention, a touch of lacing, beer is not totally black, more incredibly dark brown.
smell: rich roasted coffee flavours, dark chocolate, plum, fig, iron, some sweetness, cherry, brandy, raisin.
taste: yeah that’s great, really get those roasted smokey malt flavours at first, then that liquor like sweetness with some cherry, then bitter coffee flavours on the finish with some more smokey malt flavour, brandy, lots of chocolatey flavours too, both mild and dark flavours, fig too, the flavour is good but that finish is just fantastic.
feel: full bodied, medium carbonation, thick consistency, sticky, a touch of warming of the back of the throat, very pleasant to drink.
overall: although a total winter beer, i am still very much enjoying this on this mild summer night, best beer i’ve had from Hope by a mile, great stuff.
