1L howler from Sherbrooke Liquor store - not a lotta info about this one on the ol' Interwebs.
This beer pours a clear, bright medium golden yellow colour, with one finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly dirty white head, which leaves a bit of crooked coral reef pattern lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, buttery crackers, faint domestic citrus rind, a bit of wet flintiness, and some very tame earthy, musty, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy cereal malt, some mild orange, white grapefruit, and lemon citrus peel, a hint of earthy yeastiness, some damp minerality, and more understated leafy, herbal, and piney verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is average in its palate-satisfying frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and generally smooth, with nothing really getting in the way of a plain as the day is long time at this particular juncture. It finishes off-dry, the malt quotient winning the lingering day.
Overall - this is a pleasant enough hoppy pale ale, however, I'm not really getting the 'X' experience here, which I still don't really understand the point of. To totally screw with that classic Kiss song - 'let's put the X in XPA', already!
