A 330ml bottle with a BB of April 2018, so it's just out of date. Acquired a while back from the Brewdog webshop. Described on the label as an American red ale brewed with 6 malt varieties and hopped with Hallertau Blanc and Enigma. With each iteration of this beer the hop varieties are changed.
A: Poured into a tulip. Bottle conditioned. A deep reddish-marmalade hue with slight floating sediment and good carbonation. Produces a decent head of creamy white foam that lasts for a moment or two before subsiding to a patchy surface layer.
S: Aroma of caramel malt with hints of barley sugar, subtle grain, leafiness, mild grass/hay, a twinge of citrus peel, ale yeast and faint cardboard. Doesn't quite suit the style - can't tell if the hops have faded or are just too subtle.
T: Tastes of caramel malt with notes of mild barley sugar, leafiness, grass/hay, a hint of peel, ale yeast, stewed hops and faint cardboard. A vague mustiness lurks in the background. Slightly sweet, followed by a modest bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly tingly, with soft carbonation and good body. Aftertaste of caramel malt, leafy hops, grass/hay, ale yeast and stewed leaves.
O: OK though probably a tad too old. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are malty with subtle hop and yeast notes. Nice body. Doesn't set the senses ablaze. Try a fresher example.
