She might come to you in a dreamlike fog, or you could catch a glimpse of her through an upstairs window at dusk. Repeated sightings of this mysterious "Lady In White" have made her a notorious presence on Fort Monroe. Accounts differ as to her origin—some say she's Jefferson Davis' wife, Varina, who stayed in nearby quarters throughout his imprisonment in the fort. Others claim she's a Civil War soldier's wife who was unfaithful while he was away and subsequently murdered by him upon his return. No one really knows. But this award-winning hazy, German-style Hefe with flavors of wheat, banana, and clove is so good it's sure to give you chills, just like the mysterious apparition haunting Fort Monroe to this day.

A: Pours a relatively clear pale to medium golden yellow in color with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate pale yellow + apricot + peach + bright yellow colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall sudsy foamy white head that quickly reduces to a large patch of thin film covering a little more than 85% of the surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of banana + clove yeast esters over the top of moderate aromas of wheat + pale malts with light amount of grainy sweetness. No perceptible hop presence.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of wheat + pale malts with a light amount of grainy sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of banana + clove yeast esters. Finally there is no perceptible hop presence. Minimal amounts of bitterness in the finish and it leaves a light lingering banana + clove yeastiness.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate to heavy amounts of carbonation. Slightly crisp initially.

O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly refreshing mouthfeel. Decent job by an American brewery is getting pretty close to a traditional German Hefeweizen with true flavors and aromas.

From the draft at the brewery, it pours a nice hazy amber with a modest (surprise!) head, soon diminishing to little to nothing. Pleasant hefeweizen flavor that is easy to drink!

Had on draft at the Deadrise seafood house in Monroe,Va. Unfiltered, It poured a cloudy golden yellow with a nice white head that disappeared quickly. The banana and clove notes were apparent but not overwhelming. A great mouth feel with some carbonation but not overly so. Overall a very nice beer that I thoroughly enjoyed.

L: Poured into a pint glass, it is rather cloudy and straw colored. The head is a thin, white lace.
S: In this beer I smell cloves and banana, with a hint of citrus.
T: The taste follows suit with the smell. Well balanced spices are up front with a tinge of banana, cloves, and citrus. Yeast dominates the aftertaste.
F: A seltzer-like feel that is smooth compliments the taste.
O: This beer is a fantastic brew. The smell, taste, and feel is so appealing. The lightness of the beer makes it very drinkable, especially on a hot day!

Pours a cloudy straw color. 1/4 inch head of a white color. Decent retention and good lacing. Smells of wheat, hint of salt, slight pale malt, and a hint of hop. Fits the style of a Hefeweizen. Mouth feel is sharp and clean, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of wheat, hint of citrus, hint of salt, slight pale malt, and a hint of hop. Overall, simple, light bodied, decent feel, average Hef.

Poured a cloudy yellow body with two-finger head and waspy lace down the glass. Yeast and spicy, peppery like clove in the aroma with minimal citric zest. Smooth, light bodied, with bit of fluffiness and bubblegum sweetness from the yeast that is mixed with a dry, peppery, spicy zip with crisp almost cracker like finish. Not as balanced and citrusy as I like with a bit more of dry spiciness to it.
