When the Covid pandemic hit, there were more people affected than meets the eye. Girls Scouts everywhere were having trouble selling the last of their cookies while trying to keep their family, friends, and the community safe by social distancing. Oozlefinch owner, Russ, didn't bat an eye and bought all the cookies we could muster from a local troop. The first stout in the Scout Promise series is made with Samoa cookies as well as a plethora of other specialty ingredients to enhance flavor and aroma. Quadruple brewed to fill a 30 barrel tank, this stout rings in at 9.5% and was loaded with all of the Samoa cookies that dreams are made of and finished with loads of toasted coconut, rich caramel, and chocolate in the boil/fermenter. This beer brings you the best of all stout worlds. Sweet, slightly boozy, but finishes light enough to trick you into having three or four more...just like those tricky cookies...This is a release you don't want to miss!

A: Pours an opaque yet still clear extremely dark brown approaching jet black in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and faint dark chestnut brown + dark cola brown + dark ruby red colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall dense foamy dark tan head that slowly reduces to a small to medium sized patch of very thin film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Light amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of toasted coconut + caramel + chocolate over the top of moderate aromas of roasted + dark + chocolate + caramel malts with light to moderate amounts of caramel sweetness. Light aromas of earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of roasted + dark + chocolate + caramel malts with light to moderate amounts of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of toasted coconut + caramel + chocolate and moderate aromas of cookies. Finally there are very light flavors of earthy hops. Light amounts of roasty bitterness which fades away pretty quickly leaving lingering flavors of toasted coconut + caramel + chocolate.
M: Slightly heavier than medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth.
O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly smooth mouthfeel. Good flavors from the Samoa Girl Scout cookies and this beer was even more enjoyable since it was not overly cloying or sweet. A little more subtle than I was expecting but in a good way.

L: Poured from a tallboy can to a pint glass. Had a dark brown color and a thick, opaque consistency. There was a quarter inch of foamy, tan-colored, somewhat long-lasting head. Above average lacing.
S: A pretty good, but slightly muted, aroma of chocolate, caramel, coconut, malt, and cookies.
T: Tasted of a bit of caramel (a sweet presence, but kind of subtle), a fair amount of chocolate (always a welcome addition), some mild cookie notes (not a huge factor), a good shot of coconut (surprisingly, a major factor), and a decent bit of malt (present throughout). Like the aroma, the flavor's kind of muted. Still, not bad.
F: An average amount of carbonation with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.
O: This is an uneven beer, but it has some good qualities. Worth a try.
