I don't see any date listed on the can or the label. This was purchased directly at Oozlefinch from their refrigerator. There isn't much information I could find online about the beer but it seems like it was brewed and released during the solar eclipse which was less than a week ago so this appears to be a recent release.
Appearance: The body of the beer is a murky brown color that is nearly opaque. Some light is visible at the edges of the glass. It has a short-lived and short-statured fizzy tan head that disappears without any residual lacing.
Aroma: It has a standard souring fruit aroma which has a bit of applesauce and over-ripe pear character. The aroma is mellow but nice.
Taste: Up front there are light flavors of sour fruit which come across as applesauce and a bit of pear. There is a touch of cinnamon character at the start. It has a bit of urea character which is light and isn't a negative element in the beer. Not much towards the back of the palate or on the finish. The finish is pretty light in flavor overall and it tastes a bit watered down. The flavor of the beer starts out pretty good and then it just nosedives once it gets past the first third of the palate.
Mouthfeel: It is on the upper edge of light bodied with a wet finish. It has a light tartness. Easy drinkability.
Overall: It is a pretty average and at times lackluster beer. There is no clear style defined on the label, it only states that this is a "BARREL AGED DARK SOUR" and it straddles the line between a Flanders Red and Oud Bruin. It doesn't really have enough style points in either of these two categories to be claimed by their respective styles. The beer doesn't have much, if any, barrel character. There is a bit of cinnamon which sometimes comes from wood but otherwise it has nothing else. The tartness and sourness of the beer are pretty tame which is nice and it fits well with the rest of the beer. The flavor also starts out pretty well which is good but it leaves you wanting more flavor after it passes the front of the tongue. The label also states that this is "BREWED AND BLENDED AT OOZLEFINCH CRAFT BREWERY." If the beer were not blended it would just be an average beer, but the fact that this was specifically blended to be this lackluster it raises a lot of questions about what the blender was going for. It doesn't have a lot of flavor and it even tastes a bit watered down at times. It is an alright beer but it isn't something I would buy again or recommend.
It is worth pointing out that this is a 500 mL bottle and it cost $18 for each bottle. This doesn't factor into the rating of the beer itself but even if a person would want to try this beer I would also not recommend it based on the price.
