Imo this is one of the best red double malt around. I'm not sure why people compliment it and still don't give it a perfect or almost perfect score. The caramel and spicy hints leave a really nice aftertaste. It's very smooth and you can't really feel the alcohol that much. The only thing I may not like that much is that it's a bit too sweet for my tastes. Is it better than the blonde lager? Well, different version, different brewing techniques, so not worth it to compare them. Love this one.

In a bottle at Pasquale's in Montevago Sicily. Pours a lovely rose brown. Exactly what I expected - malty and also light Belgian spices and banana. A safe bet, this one is.

Leffe makes another step in brewing industrial beer under the tag of biere d'abbaye. Nothing is really bad in this beer. You can enjoy it, particularly if you drink it in a bbq or chilled in an hot summer day, but then you could drink in this way any other industrial beer as well.

Poured from a 750ml bottle into a Duralex water glass.
Clear medium amber in the glass, bone white head receding slowly, sloppy lacing.
Smells of Belgian yeast/banana-clove but not in your face, baked/roasted malts underneath.
Taste dominated by malt, yeast, dried apple and plum, then earthy, musty hop. Aftertaste: mossy hop, with receding dried fruit, then malt last to go.
Mouthfeel is on the thick side, the carb is present and noticable but doesn't tickle the tongue.
Overall a nice quaff
