Pretty poor for the style. Minimal drinkability. Thanks for trying, Barron. Black, no head, some hops. Lighter than average mouthfeel. Maybe fresh on top would be passable.

Poured from a 341mL bottle into a slender tulip glass
A- Nearly pitch black in color but emits a beautiful ruby red hue when held up to light. Bubbly white head with a mocha tinge.
S- Smell was very discrete. Notes of chocolate, orange citrus, sweet toffee, and a distinct roasted malts scent.
T- Cocoa, coffee, and hits of that same orange citrus with a pleasant dry hop finish that is not overwhelming.
M- It is little too light bodied and watery to properly carry these strong flavors.
O- I bought this in a winter warmer 6 pack from Yukon brewing which also contained their exquisite espresso stout and lead dog ale. I originally did not care much for this beer but have since come around on it quite a bit, although it is still my least fav from the winter warmer pack. It is little too light bodied and faintly smelling to be loved but it does have the potential. I would love to see them revamp this beer with a more full body and mouth-punching flavor.

Another decent offering from a very good brewer.
It was closest in style to their Red Ale, with slight sour tasting notes, but some spiciness in there as well.
Not overly malty, some nice bitterness-- I enjoyed this one.

Pours a deep ruby body with a foamy, cream colored head. The scent has a nice few well-roasted malt and piney hops in them, making for quite the stark contrast to the beer's colour. I can also detect some dark fruit though it is faint. The taste comes with a strong bitterness from the hops, very similar to an English IPA styling, with a bit of a malty finish, and smooth mouthfeel with a moderately bitter aftertaste. Overall it's an okay beer, definitely something I can see being regular at a pub-type venue.

A nice beer but as I often find in this stylistic confusion of beer - I'm not sure what to make of it. There is a nice bitter hop bite at the finish that keeps it interesting blended with a slightly smokey/peaty note. A solid offering from a great brewery.

In the 2015 beer advent calendar ( I'm starting advent a wee bit early )
Found it to be very quaffable despite it's short-comings. The mouthfeel and body were watery considering the higher abv.
Nice touch by the BAC people putting an archived brew in this year's selection. I'm obviously not finding it anywhere else lol

Longest Night is definitely not the most robust Cascadian Dark Ale I've sampled. It has faint coffee and roasted malt at play, but not in a "mouth filling"manner. The hopping is subtle (perhaps faint), but that does not make this a bad beer in any way. It is simply the most restrained ABA I've sampled, and perhaps subtlety is necessary on long northern nights.
