1L howler from Keg n Cork - and no, I don't have any Neneh Cherry to play in the background.
This beer pours a clear, dark red-brick brown colour, with two fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and somewhat creamy beige head, which leaves some chunky melting glacier lace around the glass as it slowly sinks away.
It smells of semi-sweet, bready and biscuity caramel malt, bittersweet chocolate, green strawberries, mild cafe-au-lait, and a tame earthy, leafy, and floral hop bitterness. The taste is more sweet grainy, doughy, and still rather biscuity caramel malt, a faint wet ashiness, a blend of strawberry, bing cherry, and watermelon fruitiness, creamy mocha, and the same laid-back earthy noble hoppiness from the nose.
The carbonation is very soft and beguiling, in that it amounts to little more than a lilting frothiness, the body a sturdy medium weight, and generally smooth, with a small niggling creaminess straining to be free. It finishes on the sweet side, with the cocoa, sugary biscuits, and weird red fruitiness holding court.
An interesting new brew from Yukon, and a pleasure to drink - the twin cannon of biscuity malt and sexy/trendy Belma hops really hooking you from the first sniff. Maybe not as drying as it could be, but whatever, it's tasty, and would go well with any manner of fruit or chocolate-based dessert, methinks.
