Appearance - Pours a deep amber with two fingers of bubbly white head.

Smell - earthy, leafy, and piney hops, hint of spruce, caramel, bready malts, hint of orange and grapefruit.

Taste - Starts off with the earthy, leafy, and earthy hops. The bitterness from the spruce comes through in the taste. The brew finishes with the caramel, bready malts, and hint orange and grapefruit.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes sticky with a pleasant lingering bitterness from the hops and spruce.

Overall - A refreshing beer that utilizes spruce to its full potential in the taste. I was hoping for a bit more spruce in the aroma but it definitely came through with a bang in the taste.

Unexpected 8oz glass at Beer Rev - thanks, Yukon Dave! Made with spruce tips picked on the president of the brewery's property, which seems like a cool enough thing, yeah?

This beer appears a clear, medium copper amber colour, with one finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly beige head, which leaves some streaky dripping paint job lace around the glass as it quickly blows off.

It smells of grainy and biscuity caramel malt, some indistinct greenery, subtle pome and citrus fruit, and more leafy, piney, and floral hoppiness. The taste is semi-sweet, bready and doughy caramel malt, a lesser biscuity toffee character, some muddled citrus and tropical fruitiness, and more leafy, herbal, and sprucey verdant hop bitters.

The carbonation is fairly understated in its plain-Jane frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with a thin airy creaminess arising as things warm up a tad. It finishes off-dry, the big malt holding down the fort.

Overall, this is another competent hoppy pale ale from Yukon, with their sturdy and stoic malt bill keeping things in order. The spruce is mild at best, which is fine with me, as I don't really need to have my mouth taste like air freshener for the rest of the day.
