Rich, complex, and pleasantly bitter. This is a heavily hopped black ale brewed with a touch of rye malt.

A bit weird, this black ale looks nice: a very dark brown with a beige head the whole drink and beyond thanks to copious lacing.
The weirdness is the nose and aftertaste, which have a fresh mint note to me. The nose I can note a nice char and a separate spice note that seems too strong to be the “tough of rye” they note. The roasted malt does hit first in the taste, but the tingle and mint come by mid-taste and grow by the end. It mellowed a tad but the beer was near room temp by then.
My GF didn’t note the mint as definitively as I did, but got it a bit. I don’t mind fresh mint, but I didn’t really want it in this beer.
