Several different malts from Copper Fox Distillery were used in the base beer, which have a very distinct flavor and aroma. If you’ve ever been to Copper Fox, then you may agree Barley Beast aged in the Copper Fox Rye barrel smells just like a tour of the distillery: grain, wood, smoke and whiskey all beautifully mixed up. Expect intensely complex flavors of rye grain, spice and dry wood.

Bottle:
A slightly burnished copper with a decent head considering the barrel treatment. A bit of a light haze that detracts slightly.

A nice toffee, cinnamon-like spice, young wood, and whiskey notes - all balanced quite nicely.

Taste has some oddities I ended up liking: light brown sugar sweetness backed by an odd lemon-lime soda aspect that morphed into a ginger-like flavor. That came about with warmth as the more distinct rye spice moved forward.

Actually a nicely balanced beer with barrel notes well represented. The base beer is what I’m not entirely sold on technically, but for enjoyability this worked well.
