12oz can from brewery. Deep golden pour, cloudy, small foamy head settles out. Aroma is a nice fruity hoppiness, citrusy. Taste is citrus, lemon, zesty.

Disclaimer - this review is based on an over-aged sample.

We had an out of the ordinary trip home from our cruise earlier this month. While we were at sea (on the lovely Oasis of the Seas) a pandemic was declared. On the trek home (Miami to Cleveland) we heard that Ohio was shutting down much sooner than most states, and the stores were already wiped out - no milk, bread, etc. The zombie apocalypse had happened. So we stopped at a Piggly Wiggly in Charleston, West Virginia, where the virus panic had yet to hit as hard, and picked up provisions (we had a cooler so we could bring back all sorts of things). This enabled us to go into quarantine, and we still are in that state, 15 days later. We both got minor cold symptoms, but didn't turn into zombies. One of my WV purchases was a sixer of this AIPA. Unfortunately, I did not check the date (or I would have skipped this), but I didn't, so here is a review of 6 month old AIPA.

It pours a nice light yellow with a bit of head, typical AIPA. The can preserved a bit of aroma, but not a lot. The taste is obviously not what it probably was, but you could tell it wasn't bad. I wish I knew how it tasted fresh. It tastes like it has been sitting too long - not very hoppy anymore. I was pretty disappointed when I got home and saw the date stamp since I didn't have much to drink in the house, but it is not the brewer's fault. That it survived, drinkable, this long shows it must have been well made.

I can't make a recommendation as I usually do, and I do not want to be unkind to the makers of this brew. In fact, I hope I can get back to the area some time and seek out other Berkely Springs products.

12oz can poured into a snifter
Canned 6/24/19

A- pours a pale slightly hazy yellow with a one-finger foamy white head that has good retention

S- aroma of funky yeast up front, with notes of dried hay, barnyard, even some horse blanket. The can says nothing about this being a sour ale? Undertones of spent grain and lemon peel

T- not tart, but definitely a slight yeast funk up front; dried hay, earthy. Mid-palate brings out some lemon peel as well as a hint of lime. The finish brings out light citrus hops and a toasted malty linger

M- medium body with moderate-high carbonation leads to a big foamy mouthfeel that continues into a sudsy finish

O- I'm not sure if this was what they were going for, but drinkable nonetheless

Poured from the growler into a tumbler not too many hours from filling.

Opaque unfiltered lemon yellow, with a creamy two finger head that settles to a good thin puck. Some faint ring lacing while drinking.

Tropical and citrus but and so with a touch of pithy grapefruit that is pretty noticeable. Hop angle is quite a bit astringent. Touches of bark like smelling grain as well.

Palate sticks to a good if simple base. Hop angle stays for a more neutral bitterness of muted grapefruit and a sort of weak orange, with touches of faint biscuity malt mixing in. Flirts with tropical finish a little bit but doesn't quite get there. Decent palate, hints almost of thick pils and wheat like density and chewy quality.

A decent if run of the mill IPA.
