Bunkhouse Brewery

 

Just down the hill from Bridger, this brewery is in a small retail complex. Small inside too. Rustic, unfinished look. 32 oz crowlers available. About 10 taps and good service.

i have somehow and very unfortunately missed this place over the course of several bozeman trips until now. it was worth the wait though, and i was really impressed with this honest and humble operation, the beer list was concise but ambitious, and the space was low brow and mellow, makes sense near the college, but the students here should be thankful to have beer this good be the norm and not the exception. its very much a working brewery, smells like a mash, has a basic layout with dewy windows over in the brew house, suggesting some active brewing, although i didnt see anyone in the process, a large bar area and some table seating as well, some afternoon light coming in, but small overall, especially compared to some of the other breweries in town, they had eight or ten beers on, a small list but some heady options, with a sour rye mash lager and a hoppy table beer really catching my eye, but they had other cool ones, a brut sour, some interesting fruited ales, an imperial nut brown, it was a great list even without being very large, and i admire that tremendously. they were just starting to get busy around happy hour time, so service was a tad slow, but whatever, the beers i had were worth the wait, and i like the nonchalance of this place a whole lot. i would rank this in the top handful of local breweries in bozeman, whether the score algorithm here on BA reflects it or not, creative beer, relaxed space, no crap. highly recommended, i regret that it took me so long to finally get in here!
