Bright white head, even with an aggressive pour barely gets to a finger, poor retention until it gets to the surface and then the coating lasts. Clean golden color, transparent, a few visible bubbles lazily rise. The nose has an appreciated crisp firmness to it and the ginger comes through clearly, the lemongrass as well just not as strongly, evokes moments and lime and salt too, passion fruit, star fruit, little bit of kiwi, comes off like it did not intend to be fruit-centric. Medium-bodied, there’s both a lightness and airy lift to it as well as a sort of stickiness as well, like the flavors want to rise but the sourness wants to cling. Strong saline quality, here even trumps the ginger. That said, the finish is reminiscent of ginger ale with even the carbonation akin to a soda. Which is not a complaint. The fruit here veers in a different direction, cherry, apple, peach to melon flavors, vaguely tart. Not discerning any particular citrus element. The clingy texture slowly wears you down but otherwise this really grows on you and I can see serving this with Thai or Indian food and it being a great pairing. (Canned 4/6/20)
