Eight & Sand Beer Co. "Bender"
1 Pint can, "CANNED ON: 12/16/19 14:53:04". Sampled on 02/21/20
$2.99 @ Roger Wilco, Pennsauken, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: Oh how I yearn to return to Deutchland. Maybe Eight & Sand can give me a little something as consolation until I can get back in September. It's poured a very hazy deep chestnut brown colored body beneath a massive head of sand colored foam. The aroma is malty, and a bit sweetish and fruity. It's not what I was expecting but it's not too far off. Moving on... the flavor has an acidity to it that's off-putting for the style. Let me check that... yep. It's got an acidity and flavor that makes me think of cherry. There's also a bitterness to it that seems too stiff and pointy even though there's supposedly only 25 IBU's to it. Ahhh, I think there might be something wrong here. Eight & Sand has always made good beer and this seems off. Let me finish up though and then if I get another sample maybe I'll update this review. So, there's some caramel to it, some toastiness, and a light nuttiness... which is nice, but there's not enough coming through and the acidity and fruitiness throw it off completely. There's no balance to it. It's anything but rounded. It's overly fruity and acidic upfront, and then an acrid bitterness lingers in the finish. In the mouth it's medium bodied and gently crisp, no problems there. So, I think I've said everything I need to say about this beer. I'll look for another sample, and I might even go over there and see if what they've got on tap is different but I don't have much hope.
