It arrived in a clear pint glass after being drawn off a tap. The color is of that brownish red-amber rather standard for the Irish Red Ale style. Briefly, very briefly, it had a modest head, slightly hued by the color of the brew. It's bright and relatively translucent. The aroma is also standard, with sweet malt and soft hops taking the lead and a little yeast and a little alcohol following. It's a pleasant drink, quite smooth with sufficient body, yet not too sweet and it dries out at the finish. Neither is it overly hoppy, again true to this style. The scant lacing inside the glass isn't indicative of the nice body. This style is perfect for those that want a little more body and flavor than a lager can usually deliver, but don't care for bitter hops. There will be no exhilaration for the taste buds from IRAs, but good ones provide a pleasant drinking experience. This is a good one.
