Coming out of retirement to rate this one? Well maybe not out of retirement, but hot dog...I LOVE me some root n branch. I also LOVE me a good stout. In my world, it's ALWAYS stout season, but as the weather chills I find myself craving those delicious malt bombs.
But I digress....as usual. I have to say, R+B has quickly become my go to local...over sand city and other half. I had the wonderful good fortune to get to try occasional home brews from the folks who would eventually open this fine establishment and I know the importance of a good stout from these fellas. They modeled from the best.... Southampton. Is this as robust and built to last as the famed IRS? Who knows? Too good to hold onto...but onto the review.
Swung by the brewery yesterday, motivated by the glass drop. Snagged a growler of this. Very impressive growler setup by the way...purging w CO2, nice touch!
Looks like a stout...big mean menacing...frothy head that is a bit oily and gives way to.an almost watery look...quick legs on any coatings to the glass.
Nose is a medley of chocolate malts...light chalkiness gives way to some vanilla notes.
Explodes on your taste buds. Simply delicious. Coffee is tastefully blended w superb notes of subtle milk chocolate and a light vanilla finish.
Mouthfeel is surprisingly light. This beer is a monster but slides down like silk.
Overall...nothing short of a masterpiece. ABV is invisible and this one is light enough to polish off a growler of but would leave your head spinning.
Super blessed to have this place a quick 20 minutes from home. Thank you R+B! Keep brewing and I'll keep drinking...wish I had snagged se cans to see how this holds over time, but I'd just end up drinking it all in a week it's just too tasty.
