On tap at Queue Beer in Brooklyn, NY.
This one pours a slightly syrupy looking dark brown color, with a small head, and not much lacing.
This smells quite caramelly, with honey, maple, and simple syrupy.
This is solid, with a tasty barrel character, but generally the base barleywine just feels extremely sweet to me, and the barrel character is not strong or burly enough to really temper any of the sweetness. The barrel character just sort of adds to the sweetness, giving a concentrated and sugery caramel like vibe to this.
This is slightly syrupy, but not boozy at all.
This was in barrels for 28 months, so I’m not sure why the barrel character is not more potent here. But, still, this is a collaboration with The Veil, so I can’t be too surprised that it leans a bit sugery.
