Poured from growler into a tulip. The brewery calls this a "blond ale", though it is brewed with corn like a cream ale. I guess I will evaluate it on both?
Appearance: light yellow hue with a touch of haze and a finger of frothy white foam. Whether this is a cream ale or a blonde ale, it looks right for the style.
Smell: lightly sweet with a dash of graininess and a rather floral aroma. No trace of corn, really. It's actually quite nice for a blonde ale!
Taste: very floral indeed right up front, with a finish that definitely has a fair dose of corn in it. Bitterness is a little on the high side, so the finish is a little rough when combined with the corn character. Not wrong for a cream ale, but a little more smoothness would be nice.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a moderate carbonation and reasonable enough texture.
Overall: it's not a bad example of a cream ale, per se, but it's not 100% my jam. A reasonable beer for fans of the style, though.
