I loved this beer. It’s an old school American Wheat ale that used to be popular 10 years ago and rarely made these days. Really nice.

16 fl oz pull-tab can:
5.3% ABV. "Blood Orange Wheat Ale."
Served cold into New Glarus stemware.
The blood orange in this is tame but recognizable...it's a worse Blood Orange wheat ale than Redlands Brewing's, for example. I guess I thought it would be more committed to its titular ingredient, but blood orange is actually fairly modest in the mix. Wheat malt gives this most of its flavour, there's some mild floral and fruity hop character...it's very simply built.
It's a little better than what I'd expect of a blood orange wheat ale if such a beer was included in a Blue Moon variety box, which is to say it's a simple shallow brew that barely ticks the boxes it needs to to deliver on its premise. Use more blood oranges, pick better blood oranges, hop with more harmonious hop varietals (Mandarina Bavaria, maybe?)...commit to the blood orange if you're brewing a blood orange wheat beer.
