Comes in a tall brown half liter bottle with a silver and red label featuring what I think I recognize as the castle at Aschaffenburg below the script. The label says "blonde and drinkable." Certainly is that. Purity law applies, of course. Best before 6/30/04, I opened it on 5/6/04.
Pours a healthy clear gold under a not so healthy one finger white head that fizzles quite quickly. There's lots of sweet barley in the nose, and a hint of flowery hops. The mouth is well carbonated and fairly heavy with the malt. Yes, there's malt in here. Lots of it. Smooth, slightly sweet, not bready at all. Just good strong barley. This is followed by a respectable if not substantial hoppy bite, crisp and clean. The bitterness lingers well into the aftertaste. I could easily picture myself downing this by the liter mug in some beer garden somewhere. Nice.
