Husk was rated the #1 new restaurant in America by Bon Appetit this year. With numerous mentions in the forum about it, i'm a little baffled that it wasn't already listed on BA.

Figured we wouldn't get in without a reservation plus it was restaurant week, oh well. Walked right in for lunch, no problem. Sat up on the balcony while some brief showers passed over, and a tiny snail momentarily popped out from a flower box next to our table. A giant magnolia tree shaded the balcony and area outside the restaurant. Inside the vibe was a little more formal/stuffy but not bad in the scheme of things. Still fairly casual. All in all it was pretty unique with plenty of southern charm.

Beer selection is hand-picked and not representative on their website. Drafts came from the bar next door, plus a dozen and a half bottles, some never seen before such as From TN With Smoke from Blackberry Farms/Mikkeller/Benton Farms.

I had some of the best food in Charleston here, namely the pigs ears with pickled cucumbers, seriously addictive and paired perfectly with the Southern Barrel Helles on draft from the bar next door. Shrimp & grits were excellent, and the marinated cucumber and heirloom tomato Salad with ricotta was also excellent.

Service was super attentive and detail oriented. We basically had a conversation about food and beer the whole time.

Overall, Husk is among the top dining spots in Charleston, but the handpicked beer list is certainly worth a look too.

Husk's bar is in the building next door, and opens daily at 4:30.
