A classic German style Pilsner. Slightly hoppy with a dry malt finish.

Can into pint glass. Pours a crystal clear pale honey-gold with a brief white head. Initial impression is slightly sweet malt and biscuit. Mouthfeel is clean and refreshing. Overall, a very enjoyable and drinkable Pilsner.

A: The beer is crystal clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that left a thin collar around the edge, a patch of bubbles on the surface and some lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of floral hops and grainy malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has a light to moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. There is a touch of dryness in the finish.
O: This pilsner is easy to drink and could make for a nice lawnmower beer.

Meh. Big disappointment for me considering the boutique brewery price for this pils. Color was right but head retention was non existent. Soda like bubbles herded in groups on the sides of the glass. Barely any exciting aromas as the nose was dull and lifeless. Sharp soda pop-like carbonation was refreshing but overall mouthfeel felt synthetic. A little biscuit or cracker malt and hop character brought some pleasant bitterness. However, an odd and prominent sweet citrus note, off kilter to the style that left the finish confusing and disjointed. TBH, this tasted like a home brewer’s first attempt at the style. Pass.

Have you ever heard the adage of "One door closing means the opening of CANother"? The Pizza Boy horizontal became MUCH more involved than I initially imagined! Between long hours at work & not drinking as much as I would like as a result, it was a really protracted affair. It was also CANspirational in that they are based out of Enola, PA, on the west shore of the Susquehanna River, across from Harrisburg. Also on the west shore is Ever Grain in Camp Hill, PA & if that city seems familiar, then you may have been a Book of the Month Club member at one time. This one marks the beginning of yet CANother potentially protracted brewery horizontal. Fasten your seat belts as The CANQuest (tm) takes on this undertaking! 1/13.
From the CAN: "Camp Pils Pilsner".
I Crack!ed open the vent on this first beer & CANtinued with a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into my awaiting Pilsner glass.
I recently scored a buncha Pilsner glasses at Ollie's Discount Warehouse, but this one remains my fave. It was procured at Otterbein United Methodist Church's monthly "Attic Treasures" rummage sale, where I seem to find a LOT of glassware!
My pour created just under two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with very good retention. Color was a slightly-hazy Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4). Nose had a pronounced crackery maltiness, leaving no doubt that this was a German Pils. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, about on par for the style. The taste remained malt-forward with a pleasantly grassy, hay-like Noble hop presence to keep me happy. Mmm. Finish was crisp, dry & very refreshing, especially on these hot, humid Summer days. YMMV.

A - Straw gold color with some haze and soapy white lacing.
S - Sweet floral with a little touch of citrus and grain, overall aroma is dry.
T - Some slight cereal grain base with some sticky sweet floral and earthy lemon citrus. There is a lingering lemon grapefruit bitter sweetness on the back end which builds and creates more of an IPA experience with the hop intensity.
M - Big and thick for a 5% Pils with initial carbonated pricklies giving way to a soft finish.
O - I really wish Ever Grain would start date stamping their bottles which is why I shy away from their beers alot of times. The strong point of this beer is the lingering earthy citrus.

Draft offering at the source appears a clear yellow color with a white head. Aroma displays that typical footy grain character with slight hoppy fruited/herbal aspect. The taste is also fruity from a combination of alcohol and hops yet softly herbal and bitter leading to a mild grain sweetness in the finish. It is light in body, appropriately carbonated and easy drinking. If I was gonna nitpick, id say its not as crisp feeling as id like in a pils but overall its better than others locally made in the style.
