Full-bodied West Coast style IPA. A huge hop character with notes of mango, pineapple and passion fruit.

16oz can into a tall glass. No freshness dating.
Slightly hazy yellow/orange body with a persistent white head. This leaves a latticework of lacing. Aroma is tropical fruit and hoppy. Taste is a 50/50 split between citrus and non citrus. Finish is where some bitterness shows up
Overall a decent hybrid ipa, knowledge of the age would be helpful.

Undated (WTF) can into pint glass. Pours a crystal-clear gold with a thinhead. Good lacing. Initial impression is citrus rind, mango, and a touch of malt sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium and clean. Finish is crisp, clean, and slightly sweet, fading to a slight bitterness. Overall, a somewhat confused message here: the appearance and mouthfeel are West Coast, but the taste is more NEIPA. It's not awful, but I probably won't revisit.

A thanks to the creator of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 16 oz. can. Has a golden color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of tropical fruits, mango stands out. Taste is pineapple, mango, oranges, moderate bitterness. Feels medium/full bodied in the mouth and overall is an enjoyable beer.

Have you ever heard the adage of "One door closing means the opening of CANother"? The Pizza Boy horizontal became MUCH more involved than I initially imagined! Between long hours at work & not drinking as much as I would like as a result, it was a really protracted affair. It was also CANspirational in that they are based out of Enola, PA, on the west shore of the Susquehanna River, across from Harrisburg. Also on the west shore is Ever Grain in Camp Hill, PA & if that city seems familiar, then you may have been a Book of the Month Club member at one time. Fasten your seat belts as The CANQuest (tm) takes on this undertaking! 7/13.

I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It was at this juncture that I made what may have been a critical error. I was nearing the bottom of the CAN & getting ready to back off and down when a clot of lees suddenly came forth! 8=( It insCANtly went from being Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7) with NE-quality clarity to a deeply-hazy Amber to Deep-Amber/Light-Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13). 8=( Nose smelled of neither pine nor grapefruit, but instead of tropical fruits like mango, guava & pineapple. Grr. That is NOT West-Coast stylee, but Southern Hemisphere stylee. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was odd, not as full-on fruity as on the nose, and yet with an undefinable bitterness that was neither grapefruit nor pine. At least, it evinced some bitterness, which is more than I CAN say for its predecessor, Summer Daisy IPA. Finish was semi-dry, slightly bitter & better by CANparison, but it still was not an AIPA, IMHO. YMMV.

Beutiful unfiltered golden color. Beginning is smooth and hop flavor grows with citrus. Second round of flavor the best with a little spice. This DIPA delivers.

Ever Grain Brewing Co. "Surf Breaker"
12 fl. oz. can without production codes or freshness dating
$2 @ Wegmans, King of Prussia, PA
Notes via stream of consciousness: The can's got a little bit of a short fill to it. I'm not going to measure it or anything, but that's not a good sign. It's poured a cloudy dark orange body beneath a two-finger thick head of slightly yellowed off-white foam. Particulate is visible in suspension. Not very good so far, but at least the head is holding well. In the nose I'm finding citrusy hops with an orange component backed by some pine. It's nice. It could be stronger for an IPA but it's still OK. On to the flavor... it's much more piney than the aroma lets on, and I feel it's missing a little bit of citrus. Still, that's OK, I don't think anyone would argue that it's not a west coast IPA but again, the hops could be a little stronger. The malt is bready and just lightly caramelish. I guess you could call it biscuity. The hops work well with it. A firm bitterness balances it and it finishes dry and softly piney. I can sense the alcohol a little bit more than I should be able to for a beer of just 7% but it's not bad, it's not like the alcohol is clearly right there. However, if there's one problem here it's that the yeast is interfering, muddying things up. The malt and the hops would both come through more clearly, and probably work together better, if it was filtered, or just allowed to clear on its own. West coast IPAs are also traditionally clear, not cloudy like a hefeweizen. Looking back, the head retention and lacing are both quite good, and it's a shame the cloudiness drags down its appearance. Medium bodied and appropriately crisp. Overall it's not bad, it's just not great.
