Sampling a cold 32 oz crowler poured into a snifter. The beer pours a rich chocolatey black color with a dense creamy khaki colored head of 3 cm. This foam fades to a wispy island and clingy edge layer. The foam leaves tight lattice on the sides of the glass. This edge layer and lattice remains throughout the sampling.
The aroma on this one is heavy with bourbon notes. I get some vanilla and dark chocolate mixed in but the bourbon dominates. I dont get any hops and although there is bourbon it isnt boozy.
First sip reveals a fairly thick body with silky smooth texture and very fine carbonation. The big body makes it a bit of a sipper beer.
The flavor is lots of malt with dark chocolate and roasted notes with some good hits of bourbon mixed in as well. The bourbon notes linger with some sweetness on the finish. Again, no hops anywhere and I dont get any booze which makes this a slightly dangerous beer at 11.2%. Im glad to have the opportunity to pickup and sample this big stout. If you like malt and bourbon this is a good one to try out, although Im wishing I had waited to split this 32 oz with a friend. Nice work Ever Grain!
