No date on can, into a Troegs pint glass.
Pours a lovely rich mahogany, almost a pale shade of reddish brown, with good off white foam. Aroma is brown bread and a little honey, but lots of nutty rich malts and a little herbal hoppiness. Flavor is solid malts with a hit of candied orange and pine, quite mellow and not too bitter but with more hop flavor than I expected. There's a lot of good nuttiness and old-school maltiness on the front end followed by the orange and pine, and a slightly bitter finish. I also get a good amount of sweetness, and it's very slightly sticky. I would definitely call this a "winter" beer due to the combination of sweetness and richness from the malts, but it doesn't feel overly sweet. Feel is good, rather smooth, with a low body and good drinkability.
Overall, an old school style with old school American hops, but on a higher level than I expected and a little sweeter. This is a very fun take on a classic.
