Lagered extensively, with rich malty notes to create a medium full body with a creamy smooth finish.

Now temporarily inside a clear pint glass, this was drawn from a tap. There's minimal biege head, but that's the way we pour draft beers in Philadelphia. Its color is beautifully bright and relatively clear mahogany-brown. By relatively clear, it's not cloudy at all. There's roasted malt and mild, yet slightly spicy hops to enhale. That vague spiciness turns out to taste like some dark cherry was included. It's lighter and less malty than expected, but that doesn’t make it disappointing. But, it's not as creamy smooth as the ideal Doppelbock. So, the trade-off here is an unusual taste layer for the style, at the expense of a little less rich mouthfeel. There was almost no glass lacing as the pint glass was drained. The ABV is nicely a part of the taste sensations. Overall, this isn't a standard Doppelbock; which doesn't make it worse, nor much better than them. But, the flavor, although less outrightly malty, is interesting enough to make this a worthwhile try. Just try to remember its name, after a couple of pints.
