This American 22B Ale is too malty to be an IPA, too hoppy to be a Brown Ale and not quite as malty as we like our Barley Wines. Beerded Recluse was brewed with Muddy Pond Sorghum for a rich sweetness and hopped excessively for a much welcomed hop presence and bitterness.

On tap at the brewery. A slightly hazy medium ruby brown color with a medium head. Great foam stability and lacing in the glass. Aroma had caramel, cherry, faint toffee, and faint oranges. This was fairly bitter with a clean orange rind flavor that balanced the caramel and chocolate malts. Medium bodied and clean on the finish. Overall this was enjoyable but the bitterness distracted me from the other flavors.
