About a year ago we brewed a barleywine called Mecaphent with our pals at More Brewing and added half the batch into 1792 bourbon barrels for a year-long slumber.
This 13% bourbon barrel-aged barleywine marries the robust maltiness of a traditional barleywine with the flavors imparted by aging in charred oak barrels. The marriage of caramel and toffee notes from the barleywine with the vanilla, oak and subtle bourbon warmth creates a tasty barrel-aged sipper for colder days ahead.

Poured at fridge temp. Pours a very dark brown with about an inch of head. The nose is toffee, marmalade, sweet maple, plums, raisins, and bourbon. Lovely!
The taste is insane. Werther's caramel candy ALL the way. Wow. The bourbon adds a lovely strength here, providing wonderful notes of vanilla, figs, and raisins. I just can't get over how much caramel came through on this one.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and the aftertaste is bourbon and caramel.

16 ounce can into a snifter. Canned 10/10/23, had 11/23/23.
Pours a semi opaque dark amber color, with a quarter inch foamy head and light foamy lacing. Aromas of bourbon, caramel, cherry, malt, oak, vanilla, some fig. Flavors of bourbon, caramel, malt, vanilla, some oak, light fig and cherry. Smooth, a very good medium body, appropriately carbonated.
Pretty tasty. Barrel forward, with delicious barrels and lots of caramel and vanilla. Would buy this again, if they make it again.
