Sampling this brew from a cold crowler that I picked up from the brewery. Poured into a mug at my house about 1 week after pickup.
The beer pours a clear chestnut color with some frothy khaki colored head that fades to a thin edge layer soon after the beer has settled into my glass. the edging does leave some thin lacing on the sides of my glass after each sip.
The aroma is caramel and a bit of nutty note with some barley graininess too. I get just a balancing grassy or herbal tea scent, but the malts are carrying the show. Not a complex nose, but very clean and appealing.
First sip reveals an average body with smooth texture and gentle rolling carbonation. Very easy drinking physical traits on this beer. Helps me polish off the crowler much faster than I realized!
Flavor is what I expect from the nose. I get caramel and some grainy malt character mixing with a little bit of a nutty note of walnuts I think. There is again some balancing hop character, definitely not bitter but grassy or tea like. The hops linger just a bit but then there is a relatively clean finish.
An uncommonly made style, that I find to be a solid example of a straightforward easy drinking sessionable brew. I would buy it again!
